Can you judge the people in interview by body language ???

body language

before get into the topic whats is body language ?
Body language is a form of mental and physical ability of human non-verbal communication, which consists of body posture, gestures, facial expressions, and eye movements. Humans send and interpret such signals almost entirely subconsciously (wikipedia).

examples of body language judgements

when judging the people specially in interviews body language plays a vital role. you may wonder how people judge you by your body language. here are some examples
  • when you maintain a good eye contact with the interviewer it simply means you are keen on listening to them, you are not shy.
  • when you crosses arms across the chest it simply tells that your reluctant to collaborate with others, you are defending your self from others.
  • when you touch or rub your nose, you are not interested
  • blinking eyes too much simply means to your interviewer that you are lying or try to hide something from them
  • if your smile is too short and too often means you are little peppy, you know not professional too social that's it.
  • sitting edge of the chair may communicate that you are not comfortable
  • if you are serious when some one make jokes will tell that you are deaf, i made a joke here.

drawbacks of this method

so question here is that fair to estimate someone by the body language specially in interviews, i think, i think no. you may ask why because of
  • people knows it, not only the employer knows these things even the interviewee knows it. any one have access to internet may knows
  • people may act like some one else, when a actor can act like jerk in a film, your interviewee too can act. interview will be maximum 1 hour for a good job i may act for whole day
  • people differ place to place or situation to situation, i have good experience on this, people who are shy and not comfort in the first year of college turned into social in a year.
  • interviewer and interviewee culture may affect, person who is too comfort and social may seen as cool by some one and stupid as another
  • people can change , people who are recruited cannot be assure that they will be same for whole life. people adopt or you may change them using your training and etc
  • psychology is not always right, you know what is the major draw back of sampling 'generalization', in simple term you cant predict the population by a sample, it may be 100% wrong sometimes. so generalizing the psychology to all in the world may not be right.
so what you think yes or no
yes or no if you feel strange on someones body language, do some investigation on that person before recruit them
